The life of an artist is a life of learning. Training and the development of craft takes time. If your singular focus is to pursue a career in acting, and if you would like to understand how we do that in partnership with Holy Spirit, you will need all 3 years of training. In order to sustain an acting career an actor needs technique to rely on, appearance and stage presence will get you the audition but technique will book the job and create connections for future work. The vast majority of professional actors with successful careers have trained extensively. It takes time to develop the technique required to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Students in our BA program receive world class instruction from professionals who specialize in classical and contemporary acting techniques; voice and speech work for actors and singers including learning IPA and accents; intermediate levels of acting and performance opportunities in mainstage plays; and professional development classes to prepare for auditioning upon graduation.
The Acting Certificate, prepares students to pursue undergraduate studies, teach, and prepare for regional auditioning. Other benefits from obtaining a certificate include: developing strong skills in public speaking, self-awareness, and the study of human behavior.
Second year students will focus on the development of technique. They will be given opportunities to audition for supporting roles in the Third year productions and will participate in a devised new work at the end of the year. Third year students will perform in a fall and a spring black box production and also have the opportunity to audition for main stage supporting roles with the senior class.
Absolutely. Seniors focus on putting together their professional reels, headshots, and resumes and have the opportunity to audition for casting directors and agents in the Senior Showcase.
